Big Brother

They say after you have a new baby your older children will seem like they grew up overnight. Boy are they right. When Andrew walked in the hospital room to see us for the first time it was as if he was a different person. How did his head get so big? And when did his belly start sticking out? He's supposed to be my baby!

We were all excited for Andrew to meet Dominic, everyone, that is, except Andrew. He couldn't care less that there was a new baby. He avoided him at all cost and wouldn't even look at him. So those cute pictures of the older brother holding and kissing the baby brother just weren't going to happen.

This was as close as we could get him and for only a split second!

He did have a great time seeing mom and dad and pushing the baby cradle all around the room!

After we came home from the hospital, for the first week or so, Andrew still didn't want to have anything to do with the baby, and since I was holding and nursing the baby a lot, he didn't want to have anything to do with me. It broke my heart! He was daddy's boy! On the days that Jarod went to work, Andrew would stand at the garage door screaming and crying because he didn't want him to go. I felt like the babysitter, enticing him with food and distracting him with toys to get him to calm down. After a few days of getting hit, screamed at, and ignored things returned to normal and he started loving me again...but still not Dominic yet.

3 Weeks later...

Andrew has turned into the best big brother! He is so lovey and want to look at him and touch him all the time.

We've only had a few instances of strangling, eye poking and shaking!

When I'm holding Dominic, Andrew get's his baby doll and imitates me.

When he wants to hold Dominic he starts talking in his high-pitched, sing-song voice and becomes the most sweet lovey little boy.

He even picks his nose for him. That's what big brothers are for!

I pray that my two boys will be best of friends and not beat up on each other too much!
